Iconic Singer Barry Manilow Will Have an Operation for a Lung Cancer Diagnosis.
Barry Manilow has revealed that he received a diagnosis with cancer of the lung and will be having a surgical procedure.
Spot Found in Initial Phase
The octogenarian performer, famous for his series of beloved anthems from "Mandy" cemented his status as one of pop music’s most beloved entertainers, will have surgery to remove part of his lung in an effort to treat the disease, which is detected early.
“For those who have been following, I recently suffered from six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.
“Despite the fact that I was over the bronchitis and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to be certain that there were no issues.
“The MRI identified a malignant lesion on my left lung that must be removed. It’s pure luck (and a skilled doctor) that it was discovered so early.”
Rescheduled Shows
He has postponed a number of planned shows, but suggested he would be returning to perform by mid-February for his longstanding residency at his Vegas home.
He continued: “The medical team do not believe it has spread and I’m undergoing further tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. No chemotherapy. No radiation. Just home remedies and favorite shows.
“I’m looking forward to until I rejoin my second home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our special weekend performances.”
A Long Career and Personal Life
Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the spotlight and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after wedding his longtime partner and manager privately in 2014.
The pair were in a private partnership for over 35 years. Recently, Manilow reflected on how vital Kief had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.
“As my career exploded, it was just overwhelming. And, you know, returning to an vacant room, you can land in a lot of trouble if you, you know, you’re by yourself repeatedly,” he said.
“But I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I was spared from having to go back to those lonesome rooms. I had a partner to cry with or to enjoy success with.
“I desire that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was joyful.”
