Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
