Nigel Farage Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and white children oppressors.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this negative culture.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. He pointed out that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” the union leader said.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with education – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people are employed in education in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. It offers these beautiful courses for free to every interested learner.”
