Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with performances like these.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
