The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage another team within the country. Therefore should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, that means I might decide down the line, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended regarding Arne Slot, praising him due to the changes that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
