The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
