Zero McKenna Celtic Discussions as Bellamy Commits to Wales
Kieran McKenna and Wales head coach have been connected with the Celtic vacancy
Ipswich Town's their manager declares he has had "no discussions" with Celtic about their managerial vacancy, while Wales head coach the former striker is dedicated to completing his squad's international campaign.
Each are being considered with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on Monday.
McKenna's Position on The Scottish Club
McKenna described Celtic as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.
The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just four games last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit twelfth place in the Championship.
"I have not had any of those discussions," the English capital native ex- Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.
"It's not something I have considered seriously, or where any part of my focus is currently.
"I possess a special position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial stage of the season. Anything external hasn't reached my radar."
Context and Contractual Aspects
It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.
"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to go around and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive football club."
McKenna agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.
"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!
"I tackle this job like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I am here."
Bellamy's Situation
The former striker played for Celtic on loan from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales striker is minded to complete the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.
The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.
Wins over Liechtenstein and North Macedonia in next month would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually assured of reaching that stage, due to a successful Nations League campaign, even if they fail to finish as their group second place.
Considering his current position, Bellamy, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
